Social media is helping to save lives in the middle of a natural disaster. Crowd sourcing social media data during the recent typhoon in the Philippines has aided authorities in evacuating thousands of people earlier and safer. This method is also increasingly being used in Australia during brushfires, flooding and cyclones. However the vast amount of social media posts and platforms makes crowd sourcing an arduous task that is not without its faults.
