The Northern Territory coroner today handed down his findings into the Ashmore Reef asylum seekers boat explosion off Northwestern Australia last year. Five men drowned after being blown off the boat known as SIEV 36. Coroner Greg Cavanagh found that three of the asylum seekers were acting together to implement a plan to sabotage the boat to prevent its possible return to Indonesia. Spokesperson for the Refugee Action Collective, Ian Rintoul, hopes the men will be treated fairly and that all the facts surrounding the incident will be taken into consideration.
