The Government has finally settled the compensation amount for Cornelia Rau. In 2005 Ms Rau made international headlines when she was discovered in the Baxter detention centre. She was suffering from schizophrenia and as an Australian had been wrongly held in detention for over 10 months. Cornelia Rau’s case highlighted the extraordinary problems in the immigration system in Australia, and community outrage forced a Federal Government inquiry. But on such a happy day for Cornelia Rau and her family, has her story changed the situation of actual refugees in Australia?
