The flow-on effects of last year’s death in custody of a Palm Island man continued today. Nineteen of the 23 people initially charged for rioting in retaliation to the death have been committed to trial. The decision by Townsville Magistrate Wendy Hull comes after weeks of evidence from more than 100 witnesses. But the accused rioters aren’t the only ones feeling heat over the incident…a Crime and Misconduct Commission report has found the police involved did not act appropriately.
