Climate change remains overlooked by the Federal Government

Last week on the Wire, ahead of the Federal budget, we had a look at what needed to be done to stop the threat of climate change. And we were told the government needed to penalize the consumption of fossil fuels, get behind low carbon energy sources and promote energy efficiency. But none of this got a mention on Tuesday night. Now it turns out that not only did Federal Treasurer Peter Costello fail to address the issue of climate change, one of the few government agencies to receive budget cuts will be the Department of Environment’s climate change programs. But would a Labor government provide a better alternative for the environment?
