A new paper released by the Centre for Independent Study calls for reforms of Indigenous land ownership, education and welfare. Authors of the report, Helen Hughes and Jenness Warin, argue that without bold reforms, Aboriginal and Torres Striat Islander people will never escape the current cycle of unemployment, poverty and violence. Not everyone, however, believes in the credibility of the report or the practicality of its reforms. Australian Democrat Senator Aden Ridgeway describes the paper as just a ‘bunch of thrown together ideas that dresses itself up as intellect’.
