Not many people in Australia would have given much thought to American Christian Fundamentalism; until it crept up on us in the US Presidential election. Then we were told that George W Bush was guaranteed between 20 and 30 per cent of the popular vote courtesy of the Fundamentalist Christians, and that they would have a huge influence in the final result. Jonathan Lucraft spoke to American civil rights activist Elaine Cassell about how the Republican Party went about securing their vote.
