Next month Russia and China have announced a joint military exercise to be conducted in the South China Sea. This is the very area which China as warned off last month by the international Arbitration Court in The Hague. The new China-Russia alignment is seen as a flouting of that ruling and a demonstration  of solidarity between two superpowers against a third,  the US.
