It is no secret that South America is home to one of the world’s biggest drug trades. Two New Zealanders were arrested in Argentina earlier this week for allegedly trying to smuggle four kilograms of cocaine into Australia. But the real tragedy of the South American drug trade is the number of children tied up in it – with a recent study showing the average age of these children is just 13. Australian journalist Sholto MacPherson is working in Brazil and has seen the situation there first-hand.
