A study conducted by the by the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute, has found half of children who are exposed to intimate partner violence experience both mental and physical health issues.

The study involved 1500 first time mothers and infants and found 1 in 4 of the mothers and children were exposed to intimate partner violence.

Health issues related to the children exposed to the violence included asthma, high blood pressure and sleeping problems.

Experts believe more research should be conducted for health and social services to effectively identify and intervene as children are being overlooked as victims of domestic violence.
