The federal government plans to override state laws concerning industrial manslaughter, with Workplace Relations Minister Kevin Andrews saying industrial manslaughter laws create an unnecessary adversarial culture. The ACT was the first state or territory to introduce legislation that made industrial manslaughter a crime. ACT Industrial Relations Minister Katy Gallagher strongly opposes the move, and told Andrew Liberts that business interest in occupational healt and safety has never been higher. She says because of this, the laws haven’t had to be tested in court.
