As Census packs are delivered to households in regional and rural Australian communities, the Australian Bureau of Statistics has adopted a unique approach to involving Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in remote and very remote locations. Approximately 1000 Indigenous Census collectors and organisers have been employed by the ABS to access these areas, with the special task of interviewing community members as part of the 2006 Census.
