A report from The Australia Institute says capital gains tax exemptions on Australian’s ‘principle residence’ or ‘family home’ were worth $46 billion this year. They say modelling shows the beneficiaries of capital gains tax are mainly high income earners and argue for the exemption to be lifted on houses worth $2 million and over.
