Cancer cases set to rise

A report released by the Federal Government says the number of cancer cases is set to rise thirty per cent by 2011. The Cancer Council of Australia called for the report out of a concern that our health services, which are already under strain, are not equipped to meet the challenge. In particular, cancer patients in country areas face many difficulties accessing treatment. A lack of skilled workers in country areas means regional patients are travelling long distances to city hospitals. The Wire’s Cat Graue spoke with CEO of the Cancer Council of Australia Professor Alan Coates about the report.
