Prime Minister John Howard has put national identity cards back on the agenda in the wake of the London bombings and a damning report on immigration department blunders. Mr Howard says it’s time for the proposed cards, which were rejected in 1987, to be considered again in light of the London attacks.Associate Law Professor from Monash University Susan Kneebone says the threat to civil liberties would be dependent on the information the government wants to collect.
