On the popular Post Secret website last Sunday, someone posted a message saying they would kill themselves by jumping off the Golden Gate Bridge. Devastated by the anonymous post, Kimberley Furnell, a complete stranger, set up a Facebook group simply titled – please don’t jump. Two days later, the group has over thirty thousand members who’ve posted hundreds of supportive messages. With one million people committing suicide each year it raises the question of can the internet be used to reach out to people in need – before it’s too late?
