The terms of reference for the royal commission into youth detention in the northern territory have been released and the commissioner has been named, but the response has been mixed.
The Northern Land Council and Central Land Council and the Aboriginal Medical Services Alliance NT have all condemned the government’s lack of consultation over the appointment and setting of the terms of reference.
While others are calling on the government to consider appointing an Indigenous co-chair to the Commission to ensure buy-in from the community.
