Artists and filmmakers were left poorer after last night’s budget with funding cuts to both the Australia Council and Screen Australia. Yet it was Attorney General and Minister for the Arts Senator George Brandis who won with his own discretionary fund for the Arts. The Ministry of Arts will establish its own National Programme for Excellence, funded by $104.7million dollars taken back from the Australian Council. Meanwhile Screen Australia will have to wear another $3.6million in cuts.
