Budget 2020: businesses to benefit for hiring part-time workers

The government announced a new ‘hiring credit’ scheme that is expected to create about 450,000 new jobs.

It’s intended to create new jobs for workers currently on one of three welfare payments, but who will actually benefit from the scheme?

Kristin O’Connell, a spokesperson for the Australian Unemployed Workers Union, says businesses might maximise the new scheme by only meeting the minimum requirement of a 20 hour work-week for new jobs.

I spoke with Wes Lambert, CEO of  Restaurant and Catering Australia, who discussed the benefits it will have for young hospitality workers.

We also hear from Joe, a courier that recently experienced a reduction in work.
