Brisbane’s “top tier” Olympic stadium announced, what could it mean for the community?

Following a number of hesitations and over three years of contentious debate, the Queensland government revealed last Tuesday that Brisbane’s Victoria Park,  would become home of a new $3.8bn venue – and 2032’s Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Amid a backflip on “no new stadiums,” emerging venue plans have received mixed reaction from both community, indigenous groups and Australian sporting bodies.

Four years since Queensland was awarded the Games, one expert points to the social, economic and environmental shifts generated by new events and infrastructure.
