In late September Brisbane musician Steve Towson returned home from a tour of Asia with his manager Vanessa. On the last show of the tour, Towson played a community festival in the Phillpines, and as a thank you present hewas given a bundle of books. Upon arrival at Brisbane Airport the pair were stopped in Customs and while searching through Towson’s belongings, Customs officers noticed that amongst the bundle of books Towson had been given, was a booklet from the New People’s Army of the Phillipines. Customs told Towson and Vanessa there was reason to believe the pair hadcome into contact with a terrorist organisation, and they would be referred to the Australian Federal Police. Steve Towson explained to Annie Hastwell why he thinks he was initially targeted.
