Labor has pledged to re-open talks with East Timor to settle an ongoing maritime border dispute should they win the upcoming federal election. At the centre of the issue is an area rich in gas and oil worth up to forty billion dollars. The promise comes after the East Timorese Government’s announcement last month, that they had requested United Nations intervention.
