Hearings kick off today at the Fair Work Commission as BHP continues to challenge applications made under “Same Job, Same Pay” laws introduced by the Albanese GVT.

The Mining and Energy Union is pushing to lift wages for more than 1,600 labour-hire workers at BHP’s Peak Downs, Saraji, and Goonyella Riverside mines, aiming to bring their pay in line with permanent employees.

The MEU says the new laws aim to close loopholes that have allowed companies to undercut wages, with affected workers potentially seeing annual increases of up to $40,000.
