It’s no secret that the war on drugs has been a dismal failure and countries are now looking for new approaches. Portugal decriminalized all drugs in 2001 and Canada has begun the process of legalising cannabis. Even the US, where the war on drugs began, is making changes. But in Australia, which was once a world leader in progressive drug policy, change has been slow.
