Safari goers dream of getting the perfect picture. Whether it’s a cheetah sprinting toward its prey, or giraffes walking into the sunset, tourists flock in their thousands to game reserves throughout Botswana.

Wildlife Biologist Kasim Rafiq is now trying to use these pictures to help conserve endangered and threatened species in Africa, tapping into the gold mine of information that these photographs present.

The use of citizens in science is nothing new, but now with location data becoming more accessible, do these large-scale, public driven, conservation efforts pose a greater risk than reward?
