It’s a coming of age ritual for many Australian adolescents looking to try something exciting and risky—smoking marijuana. For many adolescents, blazing up for the first time happens at around age 17, but many younger teenagers are also taking up the habit.

So what influences people to blaze it up, and when? Researchers from the University of Queensland have found that early initiation into cannabis use is a result of your upbringing, and is especially dependent on your parents.
