Australia’s first Indigenous ectrical engineer has yesterday been awarded his degree from the University of New South Wales. Ben Lange is also UNSW’s first Indigenous engineering graduate. Mr Lange says he had an interest in Maths and Science throughout his schooling. But after traveling from Cairns to Sydney for an Indigenous Australian Engineering Summer School in 1999, he was hooked. Queensland President for Engineers Australia, Melissa Griffith, describes Mr Lange’s graduation as a fantastic achievement. And Ms Griffith applauds his desire to be a role model and become involved in redeveloping Indigenous communities.
