Australians becoming ambivalent towards the US

A new survey of Australian attitudes towards foreign policy has found that we’re just as worried about US foreign policy as we are about the threat of global terrorism. The survey, by the Lowy Institute for International Policy, quizzed 1000 Australians on a range of issues, revealing results that contradict many stereotypes about Australian attitudes about the rest of the world. The survey found that Australians think a future Free Trade Agreement with China would be more beneficial to Australia than its current agreement with the US. The survey also found that Australians see global warming as being more of a potential threat to the country than terrorism. While US foreign policy posed significant worries for 57% of respondents. The Executive Director of the Lowy Institute, Alan Gyngell, spoke to Erica Vowles about the polls findings. He told The Wire, that even he found several of the results surprising.
