Australian author Robert Dessaix has criticised the Chinese government over a visa denied to him on the grounds that he is HIV positive. He was due to attend the International Literary Festival in Shanghai this week. But while critical of the ‘medieval’ decision, he says it less a decision based on HIV stigma, and more on tense Chinese-Australian relations.
