Australia urged to lead Commonwealth on gay rights

When the Glasgow Commonwealth Games opened last week, the ceremony became an unabashed statement of gay pride. While Scotland flaunts its equality to the world, homosexuality is still criminalized in 42 of the 53 Commonwealth Nations. Curiously, the issue was also omitted by a modern charter which was adopted by the Commonwealth last year. Associate Professor Paula Gerber was the lead researcher of a paper published in The Alternative Law Journal this week. She made some shocking findings, and has urged Australia to lead the way on LGBTI rights.
