Australia ratifies anti-tobacco treaty

The first ever International tobacco control treaty has just come into force in Australia. The treaty puts a lot of new pressure on tobacco companies. It means advertising will effectively be banned and terms like light and mild can’t be used in reference to cigarettes. Anti-smoking lobbyists have welcomed it as a major step towards reducing the smoking rates of both adults and children. But they also say it isn’t enough.
