In what represents a major escalation in the Middle East conflict, Sheik Ahmed Yassim, spiritual leader and founder of Hamas was killed yesterday in an Israeli air strike. He was the most senior target hit during the recent intifada and the incident marks a new phase in the ongoing conflict.
