The South- East Asian region will now have a watchdog, as ASEAN has just adopted the framework for Asia’s first human rights body. The ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission of Human Rights will be made up of representatives from each of the ten member countries. Several countries in the region have been criticized for human rights abuses, but activists question whether this body can effectively address the problem.
