The debate about global warming continues but in the Arctic it’s really beginning to show. As the ice melts and the frozen area retreats oil is becoming tantalisingly accessible. Recently the Russians raised the political temperature in the area when they planted a flag at the bottom of the Arctic surface. In response Canada has moved warships in to monitor the region. Professor Oran Young, Director of the Institute of Arctic Studies at the University of California says the tensions between the countries surrounding the Arctic are nothing new .
