A campaign has been launched to advocate for the release of seventeen Burmese video journalists currently serving long prison sentences in the military-dominated country. Independent media organisation, The Democratic Voice of Burma, is calling on the international community to support freedom of speech. The journalists are being detained for their news reports dating back to events such as cyclone Nargis and the Saffron Revolution. When it comes to jailing journalists, Burma is only surpassed by the regimes in China and Iran.
