In Malaysia, a charismatic leader, riding on a wave of popular support, has been charged with sodomy, an offence which carries a 20 year jail term. Right when he was about to call a bi-election. It’s a tactic former Deputy Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim is used to. In 1998 he was jailed on charges of sodomy, but the conviction was overturned by Malaysia’s highest court in 2004.
