Recent changes to the NSW Anti-Discrimination Act 1977 have renewed debates about a Law Reform Commission report in 1999 which has been largely ignored for the last 5 years. The current changes, which came into force earlier this month and launched last week, were lauded by the NSW Attorney General Bob Debus as neccessary to the smooth running of the Anti-Discrimination Board. Legal practitioners and human rights advocates have viewed the changes warily however, saying they have not gone far enough. Charles Gregory reports.
