Ambitious new plan to save the Reef – but is it too late?

The troubles facing the Great Barrier Reef have been well documented over the last decade but a new long-term plan hopes to save the beloved natural icon. Spurred into action by a worrying 2012 report commissioned by UNESCO’s World Heritage Committee the Queensland and Federal Governments have joined forces to reverse the damage done. Launched today the Reef 2050 Long-Term Sustainability Plan has brought together a number of opposing forces – business, farmers and environmental groups – to implement the scheme. However many remain critical of certain elements of the proposal.
