The eyes of the world are fixed on New York City this week as dignitaries and their envoys filter in for the 68th UN General Assembly. Over 200 leaders from Afghanistan to Zimbabwe will be attending the event, including our newly elected Foreign Minister Julie Bishop. But what actually happens at these diplomatic gatherings? Are they simply a global talkfest or is this where back-room politics is king and where international relationships are forged?
