Earlier this month, a former senior US security advisor Richard A Clarke made startling allegations about the level of security in the US defence forces IT systems and said Australia was potentially an easy target for cyber attack. He pointed to the increasing use of Commercial, Off-the-Shelf Systems, as opposed to government-developed systems, as being a factor reducing the security of such systems. Alex Koutts examined the impact of commercially developed systems and their use in the Australian Defence Forces.
