Adelaide Nightclub Says No To Men

Can sexual discrimination ever be justified? Several gymnasiums offer women-only facilities. Now an Adelaide nightclub wants to get in on the act. Savvy nightclub wants to lodge an application for exemption from Equal Opportunity laws, allowing them to refuse entry on the basis of gender. Co-director of the club, Matt Pfitzner, said the move is being considered because of complaints from club patrons. Dominic Lococo is co-director of Melbourne nightclubs, FFour and Chaise Lounge, both of which were granted this exemption last month by the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal. Dominic explained the circumstances behind their successful application. However, South Australian Equal Opportunities Commissioner, Linda Mathews, is worried that exemptions from the Act could be abused.
