The Indonesian province of Aceh is in the middle of talks than an Australian academic says are the best chance of achieving peace since the civil war began in 1976. Dr Damien Kingsbury, an expert on Indonesia from Deakin University is participating in discussions representing the Free Aceh Movement or GAM. Damien believes a combination of international pressure and willingness of both parties to achieve an outcome is a cause for optimism.
