Whyalla’s One Steel plant has been emitting dangerous red dust for over a decade and no longer has to comply with EPA policies thanks to legislation from the South Australian state government. Mark Parnell from Environmental Defenders explained just how dangerous the dust is but Whyalla resident Shannon Schwartz says many people are prepared to put up with the dust, because One Steel is the city’s major employer and vital to the city’s economy.
