A year after it was first introduced, the government’s mining tax is today before Parliament. Independent Bob Katter says he may support the new look tax, but with quite a few conditions attached.

The 11.1 billion dollar tax is now quite different to the original after negotiations with the industry, but is still expected to cause a lot of heated debate. Ultimately the government will need the support of the independents to get it through.   Bob Katter says the resource tax should be used for infrastructure to encourage mining, and especially Australian majority-owned companies.
