It’s what Aboriginal people in Tasmania have long been waiting for – a new draft Aboriginal Heritage Protection Bill that will help them to preserve and manage their own heritage. Groups will be consulted on the draft laws over six weeks, before a final all-clear is given by the Tasmanian Government.

But Michael Mansell, Legal Director of the Tasmanian Aboriginal Centre, believes the new bill is discriminatory and falls short of the “fair, balanced and modern” heritage laws the Government has promised.
