Groundbreaking $50 million dollar investment toward Endometriosis research institute

A groundbreaking $50 million dollar contribution from the philanthropic Ainsworth family in partnership with UNSW Sydney is set to transform research, diagnosis and treatment for sufferers of Endometriosis.
The funding will establish the Ainsworth Endometriosis Research Institute (AERI) which aims to accelerate new breakthroughs in diagnosis and create accuracy based treatments moving beyond current medical limitations.
Endometriosis is a disease in which tissue similar to the lining of the uterus grows outside of the uterus that can cause severe pelvic pain and in some cases infertility. Despite 1 in 7 Australian women suffering from Endometriosis, there is an ongoing stigma surrounding the condition and many feel dismissed by healthcare professionals.
Australia’s National Peak Body, The Endometriosis Coalition has stated that whilst the sector is currently “fragmented and underfunded – costing the Australian economy $9.7 billion dollars annually” it welcomes the investment with Coalition chair Jessica Taylor describing the investment as “a pivotal moment for our sector”.
