At a press-conference on Sunday, NSW Premier Chris Minns has flagged the likelihood of police being given more legislated powers to intervene and stop protests.

This comes in the wake of the recent neo-nazi protest outside the NSW State Parliament.

In February the Minns Government introduced multiple new anti-protest laws following a series of anti-Semitic incidents earlier in the year.

Last week, the NSW Government re-introduced a bill giving police the power to move on protestors at places of worship. The bill has been amended from an earlier version which was rebuked by the NSW Supreme Court, where the original bill was ruled a “unconstitutional” overreach.

Critics are concerned that knee-jerk reactions to protest laws may lead to an erosion of the right to protest.
