The recent National Climate Risk Assessment warns of Australia’s increasing climate challenge, showing extreme weather risk are widespread, and likely to intensify without urgent action. The report also maps areas of high threat, providing guidance for planning, insurance, and adaptation.

But Australians continue to witness skyrocketing costs from extreme weather, with recent analysis estimating losses of $4.5 billion a year. Vulnerable communities are baring the brunt often remaining uninsured or underinsured with homes in high-risk areas.

The Wire’s Tia Bailey spoke with Associative Professor at Griffith University, Johanna Nalau, to hear more on current threats and what strategies Australians can implement to build resilience against climate threat.
