Slip slop and slashed – 21 sunscreens removed from Australian shelves
The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) announced a list of sunscreens have been paused, recalled, or are under its review after significant concerns over their SPF reliability. The 21 sunscreens sold by 17 different companies share the same base formula, made by manufacturer Wild Child Laboratories. The TGA has expressed significant concerns about the reliability of SPF testing conducted by the UK-based laboratory Princeton Consumer Research (PCR) who have not responded to the TGA’s written concerns.
The report follows findings earlier in the year by testing consumer group Choice who revealed that 16 out of 20 popular sunscreen products failed to meet their SPF label claims. Ultra Violette voluntarily withdrew its Lean Screen SPF Mattifying Zinc in August which tested with an SPF of 4.
