An independent collective of marine scientists urge the government to consider their seven-point plan in response to SA’s harmful algae as it continues destruction of the state’s marine environment.

The Biodiversity Council – including 11 universities – has released a report outlining seven key actions. Among this, the council warns the algae explosion is not just a South Australian issue, saying the bloom’s impact will be extensive amid a rise in marine heatwaves.

The report follows $28 million pledged by state and federal government to assist SA as it grapples with the outbreak.
